Mission Accomplished - Dawn Heald

Hellooooo,

Happy Weekend everyone,

It is our last DT project on the blog this week and I
absolutely love this....

I'm sure in between all the election news (in the UK), most of you
will have seen something about remembering VE Day!

This project makes me think of all those photos of the little
children being packed off to the countryside to stay with
unknown people.  Could you imagine that happening
nowadays??  No way!!  Must have been very frightening
not only for the children but also for the parents.

Dawn says .....

I decided to make a suitcase as a remembrance to all the evacuees
and moving places that people had to do and with very little.

Cut two pieces of kraft card.
26cm x 21cm this makes base
22cm x 17cm this makes lid.

Stick pattern paper to inside of box before scoring and folding.

Base - Score and fold a line 5cm in from each edge.
Lid - Score and fold a line 3cm in from each edge.

Use Distress Ink along all the edges on both sides.

On base cut tabs from each corner square and glue to
 outside of box.

On lid cut tabs from two squares along the front edge and
glue on outside of box. cut the squares completely away from
the back edge. This forms a hinge flap.

Apply adhesive along the flap and stick to the outside long edge of
the box base at the back. Its easier to place the lid directly on top
of base then secure hinge in place.
Make a handle from spare kraft card and glue to the outside
 front lid.

Cut some coordinating pattern paper, ink edges, stamp with
dictionary stamp in same ink randomly and lightly without an
acrylic block and stick to box.
Make some distressed tags and tie with string to handle and a
quick poppy. The poppy is two punched scallop edge circles,
each cut into three petals and glued together.

Thank you Dawn, do let us know what you think too!

If you'd like to have a go this is what Dawn used -

Distress Ink - Vintage Photo, Gathered Twigs, Tea Dye

Ok, that's it for this week,

I'll be back tomorrow with our new challenge.

Any guesses??

  1. I do recognise these little suitcases they had in those times! It has been suitably aged too. I would try this project except it just would come out wonky if I did!
